As you can see by now, we talk about all types of lighting on my website.  We discuss everything from porch lights and decking lights to pool lights.  Today we’ll be talking about some outside lights called outdoor flood lights.  This type of yard lighting has many benefits to a homeowner.  Not only do outdoor flood lights provide lighting to illuminate your yard, driveway, or deck, they can also provide a sense of security and be a deterrent to would be thieves.

A solar spot light has an advantage over traditional spot lights because they can be installed in areas where you don’t  normally have electricity.  For example, my wife and  I live off the grid in the mountains.  We power our home with solar panels and a small generator.  We live on eight acres of land and there are places on our property that don’t have electricity running back there to them.  Our horses are on the back half of our property and there’s no electricity at the hay barn.  In order to be able to have lighting back there, we installed a solar spot light.  It works perfect for us and having outdoor flood lights back there is very convenient if we have to do something with the horses when it’s dark outside.

Solar yard lighting is also very cost effective.  It can be quite expensive to run a light during the nighttime hours.  Once you purchase the solar light fixture, the solar light fixture will put out free electricity for the remainder of its existence.  The savings from not having to pay electricity for the light that solar yard lighting puts out quickly pays for the solar light.

Outdoor flood lights can make your property much safer.  Most models have an motion detector on them so that if someone walks onto your property, the light will automatically come on.  Would be burglars don’t know that it’s an automatic light.  For all they know, you’ve spotted them and turned the light on.  This will make them quickly change their mind about burglrizing your home.

A solar flood light is very easy to install.  They come with a solar panel which is connected to the actual solar floodlight via a 6 to 8 foot long cord.  All you do is mount the solar panel in an area that receives a lot of sun during the day with the supplied mounting bracket and mounting screws.  Then you simply mount the solar flood light with the supplied mounting bracket and mounting screws in the location that you would like.  Finally, use insulated electrical staples to secure the cord to the wall and you’re done.  That’s all there is to installing a solar flood light.

Another use for outdoor flood lights is to illuminate areas of your yard that you might like to use during the night.  Maybe you have a basketball court in your yard.  If you aim the outdoor flood light at the basketball court, you can transform your basketball court into an area of your yard that is only normally used during the day to one that can also be enjoyed during the night as well.  Few people have tennis courts in their yard but if you do an outdoor flood light can illuminate it as well.

If the possibilities are virtually endless when it comes to the uses for outdoor flood lights.  You can purchase models that are wired directly to your home’s electrical system but for around the same cost, you can install solar flood lights.  Solar lights are getting more powerful everyday and many of them put out as much light as a traditional flood light. These solar lights aren’t very expensive either considering that they have a bit larger solar panel on them.

So do yourself a favor and install some outdoor flood lights on your property.
