LED Light Bulbs in Solar Lights

Utilizing energy obtained from the sun is definitely one way of conserving energy and helping the environment by living a green lifestyle.  One thing that many people forget when it comes to living green is that finding alternative energy sources is just one piece of the puzzle.  The simplest and easiest thing that anyone can do doesn’t have anything to do with producing electricity from alternative energy sources.  It’s simply a process of using less energy for our day to day lives.

Using  LED lights is one way of conserving energy. LED stands for light emitting diode.  LED’s can be used in combination with solar light fixtures to make them even more healthy for planet.   An LED light by itself is in very useful when it comes to lighting are living spaces.  This is because LED’s are very small and produce a very small amount of light by themselves.  Fortunately for us, manufacturers have discovered ways of combining many LED lights in unique configurations to produce enough usable light for our needs.

A single LED light fixture that is capable of producing enough usable light for our daily needs is made up of several small individual light emitting diodes.   If you have ever seen the pomegranate fruit, you have a basic idea of what and an LED light bulb might look like.  Just like a pomegranate has all of the individual seats closely packed next to each other, an LED light bulb has all of its individual light emitting diodes packed neatly together.  Manufacturers have also figured out a way to use reflective materials in LED light bulbs to focus and concentrate the light that is being produced by the light emitting diodes.

The most common type of light bulb that we use is an incandescent 60 W bulb.  Energy conscious people who choose to use LED light bulbs, can purchase LED bulbs that produce as much light as an incandescent 60 W bold but only use about 10 W or less of the actual electricity.

Another advantage in using LED’s in solar lighting systems is that since they’re so energy efficient, the battery that powers the solar light will last much longer than if you were using an incandescent light bulb for the same fixture.

The downside of using LED light bulbs is that they cost more to purchase initially.  Although the initial cost is more than an incandescent light bulb, they are so energy efficient that they quickly pay for themselves.   They also last much longer than an incandescent lasts lasts.
