In today’s post I’ll be talking about some very clever solar lights called solar rock lights. If you’ve never seen solar rock lights before, you’re going to love them. Basically what they are is a solar light that is encased in a plastic or other composite material. Instead of simply installing solar lights that stick into the ground in your garden or landscaping, you can strategically position some of these handsome solar rock lights around your yard.

These rock lights have a solar panel that is molded into the rock for charging the battery. They are often constructed of fiberglass resin and other composite materials. In most cases, they will have LED light bulbs to make them more efficient and increase the length of time that the light will be able to shine. Most solar rock lights have photoelectric guy is so that they will automatically come on at night and automatically turn off in the morning when the sun comes up.

One of the beautiful things about solar powered rock lights is their extreme versatility. If you decide that you would like them in one location for a while but later you change your mind and think they would look nicer somewhere else, it’s extremely easy to simply pick them up and reposition them. Some solar powered rock lights produce colored light for an interesting effect. Solar rock lighting can also be easily used as walkway lighting to light your walkway at night.

Solar lights are most commonly found on outside lights like porch lights and decking lights. There are many types of outside light fixtures available to home owners and today we’ll have a look at a few off them.

Motion Lights – One of the most common forms of outside patio lighting is motion lights. Motion lights can be solar powered or they can be powered by electricity from the home. Solar powered motion lights are becoming more and more popular because they can be installed in locations that doesn’t have regular power lines running to them.

Solar Yard Lights - These outside solar lights are generally mounted on a pole. Solar yard lights can be used to light up pathways, porches, or patios.

Solar Driveway Lights – Solar driveway lights are usually tiny solar lights that output very little light. Their main purpose is to mark the boundaries of the driveway so that someone doesn’t accidentally drive their car into the bushes.

Solar Porch Lights – This type of outdoor lighting is very common. Nearly every house in the world has some form of porch light. Many of these porch lights have motion sensors on them so that you can walk up to your door at night at clearly see what key goes in the lock. Solar porch lights can be installed quickly with little or now prior electrical knowledge with commonly found household tools

Solar Spot Lights - Installing solar spotlight or some outside flood lights is very useful for illuminating the entire yard. It’s becoming more and more popular to see solar spot lights installed in homes. Spot lights can make basket ball courts, tennis courts, and horse shoe pits usable at night time. Again, they are especially handy for areas where electricity isn’t normally located.

Gate Lights- Many people who have long driveways have lockable gates to keep unwanted visitors away. It’s nice to have a gate light so that you can enter the access code into the keypad or use your key to unlock the gate.

Solar Pathway Lighting – Solar pathway lights are perfect for making your pathway safer to travel at night.

Solar Garden Lights - Properly used outside lights can have quite a dramatic effect on the beauty of a garden at night. Solar garden lighs can transform the garden from a place that you only enjoy during the day to a cozy place to retreat at night.

Pond Lights - Many people have fish ponds in their yard. Pond lights can really bring a whole new perspective to the pond. Most ponds aren’t viewed and enjoyed at night but adding some pond lights can show you how beautiful the pond can be to view after dark. Another advantage to pond lights is that the lighting will attract insects that will skim the water. The fish will appreciate having these extra midnight snacks.

Pool Lights - Placing lights in and around the pool or hot tub can transform the pool from a daytime only area to a day and nighttime area. Swimming or hot tubing at night can be quite relaxing and enjoyable.

Patio Umbrella Lights - Patio umbrella lights can really set the mood for the evening hours. These clever light fixtures are perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere under your patio umbrella.

These are just a few ideas of the way outside lights can be used to “brighten up” an otherwise boring yard at night. Creative use of this type off lighting can dramatically transform the outdoor areas of your property. They can also raise the property values as well since prospective home buyers will see how they could enjoy spending their time outdoors at their new property.

As you can see by now, we talk about all types of lighting on my website. We discuss everything from porch lights and decking lights to pool lights. Today we’ll be talking about some outside lights called outdoor flood lights. This type of yard lighting has many benefits to a homeowner. Not only do outdoor flood lights provide lighting to illuminate your yard, driveway, or deck, they can also provide a sense of security and be a deterrent to would be thieves.

A solar spotlight has an advantage over traditional spot lights because they can be installed in areas where you don’t normally have electricity. For example, my wife and I live off the grid in the mountains. We power our home with solar panels and a small generator. We live on eight acres of land and there are places on our property that don’t have electricity running back there to them. Our horses are on the back half of our property and there’s no electricity at the hay barn. In order to be able to have lighting back there, we installed a solar spot light. It works perfect for us and having outdoor flood lights back there is very convenient if we have to do something with the horses when it’s dark outside.

Solar yard lighting is also very cost effective. It can be quite expensive to run a light during the nighttime hours. Once you purchase the solar light fixture, the solar light fixture will put out free electricity for the remainder of its existence. The savings from not having to pay electricity for the light that solar yard lighting puts out quickly pays for the solar light.

Outdoor flood lights can make your property much safer. Most models have an motion detector on them so that if someone walks onto your property, the light will automatically come on. Would be burglars don’t know that it’s an automatic light. For all they know, you’ve spotted them and turned the light on. This will make them quickly change their mind about burglarizing your home.

A solar flood light is very easy to install. They come with a solar panel which is connected to the actual solar floodlight via a 6 to 8 foot long cord. All you do is mount the solar panel in an area that receives a lot of sun during the day with the supplied mounting bracket and mounting screws. Then you simply mount the solar flood light with the supplied mounting bracket and mounting screws in the location that you would like. Finally, use insulated electrical staples to secure the cord to the wall and you’re done. That’s all there is to installing a solar flood light.

Another use for outdoor flood lights is to illuminate areas of your yard that you might like to use during the night. Maybe you have a basketball court in your yard. If you aim the outdoor flood light at the basketball court, you can transform your basketball court into an area of your yard that is only normally used during the day to one that can also be enjoyed during the night as well. Few people have tennis courts in their yard but if you do an outdoor flood light can illuminate it as well.

If the possibilities are virtually endless when it comes to the uses for outdoor flood lights. You can purchase models that are wired directly to your home’s electrical system but for around the same cost, you can install solar flood lights. Solar lights are getting more powerful everyday and many of them put out as much light as a traditional flood light. These solar lights aren’t very expensive either considering that they have a bit larger solar panel on them.

So do yourself a favor and install some outdoor flood lights on your property.

In the world of solar lighting, there are two main types of systems. The first can be described as active solar lighting and second as passive solar lighting.

The first type of active solar lights are defined as those that are powered by one or more solar panels. The solar panel can be small and designed to power one light or they can be large and wired to power a array of lights. These types of solar lights will most likely come equipped with a battery to store the power until the light is needed. Common active solar lights are solar decking lights, solar oudoor patio lighting, solar porch lights, solar garden lights, solar rock lights, and solar driveway lights.

The second type or passive type is a basically a skylight. A simple skylight provides light from the sun during daylight hours only. There isn’t any way for them to store the light for use after dark. Some passive systems are actually long tubes of mirrors that are capable of reflecting light from the roof of a building, through the attic and ceiling and into a living space. Some passive solar lighting systems come equipped with shutters to control the amount of light that is being let into the building. Others do not. These passive systems are simple but they can actually end up saving the homeowner a lot of money in electricity since no electricity for lighting is being used during daylight hours.

Outdoor solar lights are usually small self contained units. They are equipped with a tiny solar panel, a rechargeable battery, a small charge controller circuit, and an energy efficient light bulbs. Many outdoor solar lights utilize LED or light emitting diode bulbs. LED’s are small energy efficient light bulbs that when used in an array can put out plenty of useful light. Outdoor solar lighting may be simple solar driveway lights or they may be powerful motion detected spotlights.

In some applications, solar lights are used for street lamps. These street lamps are equipped with more powerful solar panels than simple solar garden lights. In addition to having larger, more powerful solar panels, they are equipped with larger batteries capable of storing enough electricity to keep these larger street type lamps lit throughout the night.

Another type of solar lights is solar decking lights that has a solar panel which can be placed several feet away from where the light is actually needed. In this type of lighting system, a solar panel is mounted in a location where it will receive continuous sunlight. The panel is connected to the light fixture via long wires. The light fixture will generally contain a rechargeable battery inside its housing.

Both active and passive solar lighting systems save electricity and are good for the environment. Thanks for visiting my lighting website.
