When it comes to electricity, one can’t be too careful. Unless you are a qualified electrician or have the help of a qualified electrician, it’s generally not a good idea to do you own electrical work. This is also true for outside lights. Installing solar lights may be the exception to this rule depending on what type of solar light fixture you are installing. Some types of solar light fixtures are very simple to install. I’ll take some time in this article to discuss solar lights installation.

An example of solar lights are simple driveway lights. These outside lights couldn’t be easier to install. No electrical experience is necessary when installing solar driveway lights. Solar driveway markers are designed to simply be taken out of the package and pressed into the ground. They consist of a post that is driven into the ground, the solar light fixture housing, an energy efficient light bulb, a rechargeable battery, a small solar panel, a small charge controller circuit (to prevent the battery from being over charged), and a photo electric eye (to automatically switch these outside lights on when the sun goes down).

There are really only two main things to keep in mind when installing this type of outdoor solar light fixture. The first is that the posts that you are supposed to drive into the ground are often made out of plastic. Care should be taken to avoid bending or breaking the post if you are driving it into hard soil. You may have to use a small shovel to dig a hole for the post to go into. The second thing to keep in mind is that the fixture must be installed in a location where it will be exposed to enough sunlight for the built in solar panel to fully charge the battery each day. Plan out where you would like the solar driveway lights to be and then watch the area periodically throughout the day to see if there is an adequate amount of sunlight in the location. These solar lights don’t have to be in direct sunlight all day but the longer it is exposed to the sun, the better chance it has fully charge.

Another type of solar light fixture is composed of a solar panel that is connected to the light fixture via a long cord. Outdoor flood lights fall into this category. These porch lights are much more flexible in where you can install it. A general rule of thumb when installing solar panels is to install them facing South. With this type of solar light fixture, you can mount the panel in a location where the sun will shine on it for the majority of the day, and you can install the actual outdoor flood light in a shady location.

Solar patio lighting is also easy to install. You generally just mount the solar panel in a sunny location and mount the solar light fixture in the area where you will want to have light. Patio lighting can not only light up your patio, it can also be a real mood enhancer if used properly. Might I suggest that you install patio lighting on a dimmer switch so you can turn down the lights to set the appropriate mood. This will give you much more flexibility in how you can use the patio lighting on your patio.

Another very common type of solar lighting is solar garden lights. These clever light fixtures can really change the mood of any garden when used properly.

As you can see, these solar lights can be easily installed by inexperienced people. Most are designed so that no wiring needs to be done. This means there is no need to hire an electrician and therefore they make perfect DIY’er projects.

Solar decking lights are also easy to install and can save you quite a bit of money on your electric bill. After the initial purchase, you’ll never have to pay a penny for the lighting that they give you.

After taking on the job of installing solar lights on your home, you can relax in your rocking chair under you patio umbrella lights and feel satisfied that in a small way you are doing your part to help save the planet.

Today we’ll be talking about how solar driveway lights can brighten up your driveway. Driveway lights have been around for many years but few people have actually installed them along the driveways. I believe that the main reason you don’t see more driveway lights in people’s landscaping is because most people are a little bit afraid of electricity and don’t want to tackle the job of wiring driveway lights up. Although the job is not difficult, it does require a little bit more work than installing solar driveway lights. Okay, if we’re going to be completely honest, they require quite a bit more work. If you’re going to install solar driveway markers, you don’t have to go through all the trouble of digging the trenches to bury the wires in because solar driveway markers don’t have if any wires.

The reason that people install solar driveway lighting is so that they have some sort of visual reference when backing out of their driveway at night. These handy solar light fixtures are usually spaced every few feet along the perimeter of both sides of your driveway. If you have a curved driveway, they are especially handy and may prevent you from driving your car into your bushes or rose garden. While driveway markers are primarily designed to keep you from driving off the edge of your driveway, they also add quite a dramatic effect to your landscaping at night. Keep in mind that creative use of outside lights can really improve the look of your property during the twilight hours.

Solar powered driveway lights are extremely easy to install. There are basically two types to a solar power driveway lights you should be aware of when making your purchasing decisions. The first types are simply designed for you to press into the ground in and a sunny location and forget about them. What could be more simple than that? The second type of solar driveway light is designed to be glued down to your driveway. These are quite easy to install as well. The hardest part is getting them evenly spaced. Since you have to glue down these solar driveway light fixtures, you want to make sure that you have the spacing perfect before you apply the glue. If the spacing is not perfect on solar driveway lights that press into the soil, all you have to do is pull them up and reposition them but at the spacing isn’t perfect if for the glue down type, you have to pry the light fixture up being careful not to break it, scrape the old glue off of it and glue it back down in the correct position.

The only thing really worth mentioning about installing solar powered driveway lights, is to make sure that you install them in an area where they will get plenty of sun exposure. If you install a solar driveway marker in the shade, it won’t get enough sun exposure to thoroughly charge the battery. This will mean that the solar driveway light won’t provide much, if any light throughout the night.

Today we will be talking about some very handy light fixtures called driveway lights. If you’ve never heard of driveway lights before, let me take just a minute and explain to you what they are. A driveway light is basically a low voltage light fixture that is designed primarily to act as if a marker along the edge of your driveway. Driveway lighting is primarily used to give drivers a clear indication of where the edge of the driveway is. Although their primary purpose is utilitarian in nature, adding driveway lighting can also improve the look of your landscaping. Having driveway lights spaced evenly along either side of your driveway really can have a dramatic effect on the appearance of your landscaping at night.

There are basically two types of driveway lights to choose from when installing this type of lighting. The first type are low voltage driveway lights that are powered by your home’s electrical system. These driveway light fixtures are low voltage for safety purposes. When you install this type of lighting around your driveway, you typically only bury the wiring a few inches deep. If your driveway lights weren’t low voltage and you accidentally cut through one of the wires with a shovel, you could receive a jolt of a lifetime.

To install this type of driveway lighting, you simply space the light fixtures evenly along the perimeter of your driveway and press the driveway light fixture into the soil. They are usually on a metal or plastic stake that is easily driven into the soil. Then, you simply dig a very shallow trench to hide the wiring between the light fixtures. Next, you place the wire in the trench and backfill over it. At the end of the run of driveway light wiring, will be a small transformer that you plug into a standard 120 volt electrical outlet. The transformer that I’ve referred to is the device that converts the 120 volts AC electricity into safe, low voltage DC electricity that will power your driveway lighting.

The next type of driveway lighting is a little bit easier to install and it is solar driveway lighting. These little solar lights are very user friendly and require basically no installation at all. To install solar driveway lighting, all you need to do is remove the solar light fixture from the package, choose the location where you would like the light to be, and press the stake into the soil. The only thing that takes a little bit of thought is the placement of the solar light fixture. You should make sure that you don’t place the solar light fixture in an area where it is always in the shade. If you do this, the sun won’t have an opportunity to shine on the solar panel and charge the solar driveway lights and you won’t get any light from them at night.

Thanks for visiting my website on various types of lighting like solar lights, outdoor flood lights, porch lights, patio umbrella lights, and more

Today I would like to talk about outside lights. More specifically, porch lights and how making a few simple changes to your patio lighting can change the look and feel of your home. Nearly all homes in the U.S., and around the world for that matter have some sort of porch light. It always surprises me how simple most porch lights are and how little thought usually goes into choosing the porch lighting fixtures.

In most cases, many homes have a simple one light bulb fixture on their porch and decks These porch and decking lights are often very plain and inadequate in the amount of light that they put out. With just a little bit of effort, homeowners can really change the look and feel of their home by installing a new porch light.

It’s not a difficult job to install a porch light and you don’t have to be an electrician to do it. There are no special tools needed to install a porch light. In most cases all you’ll have to do is turn the power off to avoid getting an electric shock, remove two screws to take your old porch light off, and remove the wire nuts that connect the house wires to the porch light fixture. That’s all there is to removing the old porch light.

Installing a new porch light is just as easy. All you have to do is attach that wires with the supplied wire nuts to the house wiring. The instruction manual in the light fixture will give you clear instructions on exactly what wires to connect. You don’t have to be an electronic genius to figure it out. There are only three wires to connect and you connect them with plastic wire and that that you tighten with your fingers. After you have connected the wires, you simply attach the light fixture to your home with two screws that are already in place from the installation of the old porch light fixture.

Some simple ways that you can improve your porch lighting are as follows.

Choose a porch light that matches the decor of your home.

Choose a porch light that has more than one bulb light outdoor flood lights. In many cases porch lights have light bulbs that can be aimed to direct the light onto a particular area that you want to illuminate.

Choose a porch light that has a motion sensor. If you are put out by the ugly utilitarian looking motion sensor lights of the past, you’ll be pleased to know that many very fashionable porch light fixtures come with motion sensors now days.

Choose a porch light that has a photoelectric eye. A photoelectric eye is simply a switch that automatically turns the porch light on when the sun goes down at night and automatically turns it off when the sun comes up in the morning.

Solar lights are most commonly found on outside lights like porch lights and decking lights. There are many types of outside light fixtures available to home owners and today we’ll have a look at a few off them.

Motion Lights – One of the most common forms of outside patio lighting is motion lights. Motion lights can be solar powered or they can be powered by electricity from the home. Solar powered motion lights are becoming more and more popular because they can be installed in locations that doesn’t have regular power lines running to them.

Solar Yard Lights - These outside solar lights are generally mounted on a pole. Solar yard lights can be used to light up pathways, porches, or patios.

Solar Driveway Lights – Solar driveway lights are usually tiny solar lights that output very little light. Their main purpose is to mark the boundaries of the driveway so that someone doesn’t accidentally drive their car into the bushes.

Solar Porch Lights – This type of outdoor lighting is very common. Nearly every house in the world has some form of porch light. Many of these porch lights have motion sensors on them so that you can walk up to your door at night at clearly see what key goes in the lock. Solar porch lights can be installed quickly with little or now prior electrical knowledge with commonly found household tools

Solar Spot Lights - These types out outside flood lights is very useful for illuminating the entire yard. It’s becoming more and more popular to see solar spot lights installed in homes. Spot lights can make basket ball courts, tennis courts, and horse shoe pits usable at night time. Again, they are especially handy for areas where electricity isn’t normally located.

Gate Lights - Many people who have long driveways have lockable gates to keep unwanted visitors away. It’s nice to have a gate light so that you can enter the access code into the keypad or use your key to unlock the gate.

Solar Garden Lights - Properly used outside lights can have quite a dramatic effect on the beauty of a garden at night. Solar garden lighs can transform the garden from a place that you only enjoy during the day to a cozy place to retreat at night.

Pond Lights - Many people have fish ponds in their yard. Pond lights can really bring a whole new perspective to the pond. Most ponds aren’t viewed and enjoyed at night but adding some pond lights can show you how beautiful the pond can be to view after dark. Another advantage to pond lights is that the lighting will attract insects that will skim the water. The fish will appreciate having these extra midnight snacks.

Pool Lights - Placing lights in and around the pool or hot tub can transform the pool from a daytime only area to a day and nighttime area. Swimming or hot tubing at night can be quite relaxing and enjoyable.

Patio Umbrella Lights - Patio umbrella lights can really set the mood for the evening hours. These clever light fixtures are perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere under your patio umbrella.

These are just a few ideas of the way outside lights can be used to “brighten up” an otherwise boring yard at night. Creative use of this type off lighting can dramatically transform the outdoor areas of your property. They can also raise the property values as well since prospective home buyers will see how they could enjoy spending their time outdoors at their new property.

Many homes around the world have decks and porches on them on them. Decks can be an area of your home that is unlike any other area of your property. The atmosphere on a deck is different than any other room in your home. Decks are perfect for lounging on and spending quality time with your close friends and family. Many a barbecue have been held on decks around the world. Decks are also perfect for sunbathing. Decks are such a wonderful addition to any home that it just makes sense to get the most use out of them as you can.

Installing decking lights and porch lights can transform your deck from a place that you and your family enjoy during the day to one that you can enjoy equally at night. Don’t think of outside lights such as decking lights as just a simple patio light. Most decks already have a patio light on them. These patio lighting fixtures are generally just a simple one bulb light fixture.

A deck is a perfect place for installing solar deck lights. Many people want to live a greener lifestyle and do their part to conserve electricity. Solar light fixtures for your deck are the perfect way to do this. They’re inexpensive and really easy to install. As a matter of fact, with just a tiny bit of know how and a few simple hand tools, you can install these solar lights in about 30 minutes.

A good deck light should fully illuminate your deck. The best kind of deck light is one that doesn’t just light up one area of your deck. You can install a solar spot light on your deck that has multiple lights. The beauty of a solar spot light is that you can aim the light in just the right place to really bring your deck to life at night.

If you plan it out and be creative, your decking lights will perfectly light up your deck without having one area of the deck that is really bright and other areas that are dark. One way to accomplish this is to use more than one light fixture and mount the second or third fixture in a different location than the original one. It’s a good idea to use several decking lights with less powerful bulbs. This will help ensure that the light on your deck is even and not so overwhelming in one particular spot of the deck.

One really cool type of solar lights are solar deck lights that fasten right on top of your existing deck posts. They don’t require any special installation at all. This is the type of light in the picture to the left. Each light has an LED bulb in it. Click on the picture to buy a set of four of these deck lights for only $34.49!

Remember that when it comes to lighting your home, the way we do it can have a dramatic effect on the overall feel of the living space. Think of installing decking lights as “decorating with lights” instead of simple installing light fixtures.

Ever wonder if you could heat your home without having to constantly buy expensive bottles of gas? Well, there just happens to be a solution to that problem, if you have enough money to invest. The solution is a solar panel. Solar panels can convert the energy from the sun to either heat or electricity, and if you have enough panels installed on your roof you can live quite a comfortable life without having to pay electricity or gas bills.

Panels that specialize in heating are called thermal panels, these panels are specifically designed to create as much heat as possible to heat a small water supply. Panels that produce electricity are called photon electric panels, these panels convert sunlight into electricity, this system is usually connected to battery banks that can be used at night time as well as daytime.

Solar panel technology was first used on satellites, as you could imagine these panels were extremely expensive, but with advances in technology the panel model has been enhanced to the point where we can buy solar panels for homes for a somewhat affordable price.

Solar panels can be found in many different places today. Many calculators are equipped with a small solar panel that can absorb energy from even artificial light bulbs to produce enough power to operate. Of course, a calculator requires barely any energy to operate. If your planning on heating or supplying electricity for your entire house, you will be needing a lot of panels, sometimes you can see houses with entire roofs made out of solar panels. As you can imagine these types of houses are quite self sufficient, and rarely need to pay any bills. Of course, buying and installing solar panels is not a cheap operation. But you will be saving money in the long run, you do the math.

As you can see by now, we talk about all types of lighting on my website. We discuss everything from porch lights and decking lights to pool lights. Today we’ll be talking about some outside lights called outdoor flood lights. This type of yard lighting has many benefits to a homeowner. Not only do outdoor flood lights provide lighting to illuminate your yard, driveway, or deck, they can also provide a sense of security and be a deterrent to would be thieves.

A solar spot light has an advantage over traditional spot lights because they can be installed in areas where you don’t normally have electricity. For example, my wife and I live off the grid in the mountains. We power our home with solar panels and a small generator. We live on eight acres of land and there are places on our property that don’t have electricity running back there to them. Our horses are on the back half of our property and there’s no electricity at the hay barn. In order to be able to have lighting back there, we installed a solar spot light. It works perfect for us and having outdoor flood lights back there is very convenient if we have to do something with the horses when it’s dark outside.

Solar yard lighting is also very cost effective. It can be quite expensive to run a light during the nighttime hours. Once you purchase the solar light fixture, the solar light fixture will put out free electricity for the remainder of its existence. The savings from not having to pay electricity for the light that solar yard lighting puts out quickly pays for the solar light.

Outdoor flood lights can make your property much safer. Most models have an motion detector on them so that if someone walks onto your property, the light will automatically come on. Would be burglars don’t know that it’s an automatic light. For all they know, you’ve spotted them and turned the light on. This will make them quickly change their mind about burglrizing your home.

A solar flood light is very easy to install. They come with a solar panel which is connected to the actual solar floodlight via a 6 to 8 foot long cord. All you do is mount the solar panel in an area that receives a lot of sun during the day with the supplied mounting bracket and mounting screws. Then you simply mount the solar flood light with the supplied mounting bracket and mounting screws in the location that you would like. Finally, use insulated electrical staples to secure the cord to the wall and you’re done. That’s all there is to installing a solar flood light.

Another use for outdoor flood lights is to illuminate areas of your yard that you might like to use during the night. Maybe you have a basketball court in your yard. If you aim the outdoor flood light at the basketball court, you can transform your basketball court into an area of your yard that is only normally used during the day to one that can also be enjoyed during the night as well. Few people have tennis courts in their yard but if you do an outdoor flood light can illuminate it as well.

If the possibilities are virtually endless when it comes to the uses for outdoor flood lights. You can purchase models that are wired directly to your home’s electrical system but for around the same cost, you can install solar flood lights. Solar lights are getting more powerful everyday and many of them put out as much light as a traditional flood light. These solar lights aren’t very expensive either considering that they have a bit larger solar panel on them.

So do yourself a favor and install some outdoor flood lights on your property.

One of the easiest ways to spruce up your patio is with patio lighting. Adding patio lighting to your patio can transform this outdoor living space into a place that you can enjoy not only during the day but also during the night. The outside lights that you install can either be regular lighting that is connected to your home’s electrical system or it can be solar light fixtures.

Most people have some sort of a light fixture on their patio already. These lights are generally just basic fixtures with one switch and they work fine but for the purpose of our discussion today, we’ll be talking about really spicing up the patio with creative solar patio lights.

One way to use solar lights around your patio that is quite nice is to install solar driveway markers around the perimeter of your patio. These little low powered lights are not really designed for producing a lot of light. They’re actually designed more as a way to outline a particular area in your yard. Normally they are installed along the edge of a driveway to keep you from driving off the driveway and into the bushes when you’re backing your car out at night.

Solar driveway lights can make very interesting patio lights. Simply line your patio with these solar lights and when the sun goes down, the outline of your patio will be clearly marked. This not only looks nice but it can be a safety feature as well. Many patios are made with raised concrete or raised wood. It’s not uncommon for people to trip and fall off the edge of these patios due to poor lighting. Even though the patio might only be raised a few inches, a person can still twist their ankle on the edge of the patio or break an arm or hip if they step off the edge and fall. Using driveway markers to line the edge of the patio can prevent this type of an accident.

Usually homes have one single patio light installed right above the doorway. Might I suggest that you replace this light with some solar outdoor flood lights. These types of lights don’t have to be so bright that they are overpowering. The nice thing about using solar lights as patio lighting is that you can aim the lighting to shine on the exact location that you want to illuminate. This strategic direction of patio lighting can accent particular features of your patio that you want to draw the attention to. Maybe you have a statue or some figurines on your patio. Aiming the outdoor floodlight at these items can really make them stand out at night.

Other patio lights might include lights that are on posts. If you have a cover over your patio, it can look really nice if you install solar post lights on each of the posts that are supporting the patio cover. If you do this, it’s a good idea to install patio lights that have switches on each fixture. That way if you only want to turn on a couple of them you can if or you want to really light of the patio and make it like daytime, you can do that as well. Solar post lights are easy to install and they can

In the world of solar lighting, there are two main types of systems. The first can be described as active solar lighting and second as passive solar lighting.

The first type of active solar lights are defined as those that are powered by one or more solar panels. The solar panel can be small and designed to power one light or they can be large and wired to power a array of lights. These types of solar lights will most likely come equipped with a battery to store the power until the light is needed. Common active solar lights are solar decking lights, solar patio lights, solar porch lights, solar garden lights, and solar driveway lights.

The second type or passive type is a basically a skylight. A simple skylight provides light from the sun during daylight hours only. There isn’t any way for them to store the light for use after dark. Some passive systems are actually long tubes of mirrors that are capable of reflecting light from the roof of a building, through the attic and ceiling and into a living space. Some passive solar lighting systems come equipped with shutters to control the amount of light that is being let into the building. Others do not. These passive systems are simple but they can actually end up saving the homeowner a lot of money in electricity since no electricity for lighting is being used during daylight hours.

Outdoor solar lights are usually small self contained units. They are equipped with a tiny solar panel, a rechargeable battery, a small charge controller circuit, and an energy efficient light bulbs. Many outdoor solar lights utilize LED or light emitting diode bulbs. LED’s are small energy efficient light bulbs that when used in an array can put out plenty of useful light. Outdoor solar lighting may be simple solar driveway lights or they may be powerful motion detected spotlights.

In some applications, solar lights are used for street lamps. These street lamps are equipped with more powerful solar panels than simple solar garden lights. In addition to having larger, more powerful solar panels, they are equipped with larger batteries capable of storing enough electricity to keep these larger street type lamps lit throughout the night.

Another type of solar lights is solar decking lights that has a solar panel which can be placed several feet away from where the light is actually needed. In this type of lighting system, a solar panel is mounted in a location where it will receive continuous sunlight. The panel is connected to the light fixture via long wires. The light fixture will generally contain a rechargeable battery inside its housing.

Both active and passive solar lighting systems save electricity and are good for the environment. Thanks for visiting my lighting website.
